Lead Infrastructure Engineer. £57k DOE + company benefits. Hybrid
 
The Lead Infrastructure Engineer will play a pivotal role in raising the level of ICT services offered. Experience of network and server support, together with project management skills are essential. The Lead Infrastructure Engineer will be a senior member of the IT Services team and will be capable of making significant decisions alone, based on a sound analytical approach.
 
The Lead Infrastructure Engineer will be involved in both systems-side and user-facing IT support.

Responsibilities
 

  • Responding to user's queries about the full range of supported applications and services
  • Trouble-shooting connectivity issues, particularly those relating to the wireless and accommodation networks
  • Assisting with routine hardware and software installation and configuration
  • Assisting the Marketing Department in the back-end maintenance and security of the company Web site
  • Routine management of the network and networked services.
  • Managing the network infrastructure (wired and wireless), including capacity planning and early identification of faults
  • Monitoring network use and effectiveness
  • Maintaining expert and up-to-date knowledge of network and computer security issues and advances in network technologies
  • Overall responsible for data and network security
  • Researching, proposing, planning and implementing new and improved services.
 
Skills and Knowledge
  • CCNA/CCNP
  • Installing, securing, configuring and administering TCP/IP Ethernet networks; including cabling, firewalls, switches, routers, wireless, VLANs, WAN links and VPNs
  • A solid understanding of the principals, technologies and best practices involved in running the above "network components"
  • Scripted administration of Windows and Unix/Linux systems (e.g. VBscript, Powershell, Bash, Php).
  • Managing Key Network servers/services (DHCP/DNS/etc) – Linux and Windows
  • An in-depth knowledge of computer hardware (servers, workstations and portable devices)
  • Assisting with the management and running of the client site Server and storage virtualisation platforms
  • Ensuring the network/servers and IT equipment are kept secure and advising about updates when required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 systems to manage security and provide general advice
  • Excellent documentation skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent project management and time management, including the ability to foresee likely complications and plan around them
  • At least three years' demonstrable experience in the design, build and operation of business-critical networks
  • A bachelors' degree or, exceptionally, extensive practical experience
  • A pro-active approach to improving IT service provision
  • Dealing with 3rd party companies and suppliers, as well as internal stake holders
