My client is a local government body is Central London who requires an experienced Digital Accessibility Analyst to work as part of a cross functional team and support the delivery of an effective digital service by leading on and contributing to the development, implementation and fixing of new and existing products delivered online to customers or internally to staff which support and enable accessibility to services for all. The accessibility analyst role is key to delivering accessibility standards for websites and digital platforms.

Over the last year there has been a push to ensure the accessibility of my clients systems and public facing digital services to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This has meant that they are having to perform accessibility audits on all our public facing websites and for any new systems that are rolled out. As part of the online operations team you will be working with in-house digital accessibility analysts, front and back-end developers, dev ops, testers, communications and content officers to ensure our digital service provision to staff and residents meet accessibility best practice.

You should have experience of usability, accessibility, front end web development and conducting web and application accessibility audits.

Main Accountabilities; 

  • Conduct accessibility audits and usability tests and provide analysis and recommendations based on the results.
  • Development of new accessible and amended front end components for use in websites and other public digitally delivered services.
  • Responsible for ensuring the public facing website functions and applications are always running and responding to problems by fixing or escalating the problem to relevant expert domains as appropriate. This may grow to include internally facing applications.
  • Ensure compliance with development best practice and secure coding with an emphasis on achieving high standards of accessibility with client services.
  • Delivery of new digital components and developments as scheduled, including support of out of hours deployments and transition of new digital developments into the operational team(s) or 3rd parties.
  • Work jointly with team members to create wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes.

Duties and responsibilities;

  • Lead or contribute to the scoping, development and implementation of new pieces of functionality for websites and other web/browser-based UI’s (internally and externally facing). Take responsibility and accountability for delivering compliant, high performance accessible Frontend design implementations.
  • Provide an assurance function for procured systems and online services to ensure accessibility standards and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Work effectively alongside UX Designers, Back End Developers, Testers and Frontend developers to develop digital solutions.
  • Apply best practice principles of usability, information architecture, design and coding standards to all online products, including those elements developed in other departments and organisations, to ensure a seamless, easy to use user journey with accessibility at its core.
  • Support the development of a strategic approach to self-service – the ability of customers, especially those with accessibility needs, to complete transactions and make requests in a seamless online environment.
  • To apply best practice in design, usability and development, including changes within the Content Management Systems.
  • Create and improve new and existing products, platforms and transactions in line with meeting accessibility standards to support fairness for all policies. Be involved in the wider web and digital development community, identifying good practices so we can adopt and share our experiences.
  • Sharing knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team and across IDS, both developers and non-developers. When required, provide assistance to the 2nd-line support of applications and platforms, including occasional support outside of office hours. Assisting in the management of supplier relationships.
