My local authority client based in the South West is looking for a Senior Server Technician who can successfully hit the ground running.

Responsible for the support, maintenance and design of infrastructure components and associated technologies within a Data Centre Environment.

This role will primarily be focused around a project to migrate physical and virtual Windows 2008 servers to later variants (Windows 2012 / 2016). The role may also involve some general operational activities supporting the SLA.

Being a member of the Network, Hardware and Facilities team. The role will be working alongside highly experienced engineers across the Data Centre and Server technology areas as well as Network, Voice, & Network Security.

Key duties will include:

Production and reporting of technical performance information appropriate to the area in which the role operates.

Monitor actual trends in system activity, agree policies for future developments and optimise performance at both a solution and operating system level appropriate to the area in which the role operates.

Availability Management across infrastructure and solutions appropriate to the area in which the role operates.

Input to the IS and corporate Business continuity planning appropriate to the area in which the role operates.

The progression of incidents and problems in line with targets and commitments held within the Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Involved with formal projects and change requests, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner in accordance with current standards, policies and procedures.

Creation and implementation of procedures relating to the deployment and use of Information Service solutions.

Ensure quality data exists within Information Services data sets (e.g. Configuration Management System, Call Management System, Customer database).

Progress notifications of Information Service solutions misuse.

Co-ordinate, develop and provide feedback to allocated Information Services Officers (including trainees) as requested and appropriate to the role.

Contribute to the delivery and improvement of the service objectives.

Be aware and adhere to applicable policies and processes within Information Services (e.g. Incident Management; Change Management; Configuration Management; Procurement).

Be aware and adhere to applicable rules, regulations and legislation (e.g. Data Protection, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities).

Be aware of and adhere to all security policies and procedures relevant to the role.

Assess, own and escalate risks where appropriate.

Ensuring that provision of support from external suppliers is done in accordance with underpinning contracts.

Production of documentation and processes across all environment in which the role operates.

Knowledge, skills & experience required:

A minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience designing, supporting, configuring and implementing Windows Server (2008, 2012, 2016) operating systems in an Enterprise environment.

Relevant and recognised Industry Certification for area of specialism i.e. MCSE, MCSA.

Evidence of significant involvement (preferably leading) in large scale Microsoft Server upgrade / migration projects that host a diverse range of business applications is desirable.

Experience liaising with application software vendors, to devise technical migration plans.

Experience liaising with customers, for example planning testing & downtime for applications during migration activity.

Demonstrable knowledge supporting virtual server environments including p2V migrations. (utilising VMWARE vSphere environment).

Demonstrable knowledge of related Microsoft technologies – eg Active Directory, SCOM / SCCM / WSUS.

Experience of Cloud migration and Hybrid Cloud environments desirable.

ITIL v3 Foundation Certification

This role is initially for 3 months with a view to extend just depending on the business needs.
